Why we use it
Sodium hydroxide, otherwise known as lye, is a strong base with the chemical formula NaOH. When it’s dissolved, that separates into a sodium (Na) ion, and a hydroxide (OH) ion. Hydroxide concentration is what gives a solution a higher pH, so sodium hydroxide is used to raise the pH of a product. In Soft Touch AHA, we aim for an ideal final pH of 3.4, which we achieve by adding a little sodium hydroxide to the formula.
