INGREDIENT GLOSSARY • Emulsifier

Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate

AT A GLANCE

Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate

A co-emulsifier that helps keep oil-based and water-based ingredients together.

Type of Ingredient

Emulsifier

Why we use it

Sodium lauroyl lactylate is a gentle emulsifier, meaning that one side of the molecule binds with water-based ingredients, and the other side binds with oil-based ingredients. Emulsifiers are used to hold together two ingredients or phases that normally wouldn’t combine. We use SLL to help evenly disperse oil-based ceramides in a water-based cream.
