INGREDIENT GLOSSARY • Thickener
Sorbitan Olivate
AT A GLANCE
Sorbitan Olivate
Emulsifier made from combining sorbitol, a natural sugar alcohol, with the fatty acids of olive oil.
Type of Ingredient
Thickener
Why we use it
When combined with cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate creates a silky emulsifier that holds the ingredients together in Interface. It’s why we can use oil-based ingredients like squalane as well as water-based ingredients like licorice root extract, without having them separate out. It’s also a major player in Interface’s smooth gel-cream texture.
